Signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the PAGGW and UNDP
February 25, 2022

On 25 February 2022, in the Mahamadou Coulibaly Conference Room of the Pan-African Agency of the Great Green Wall, a Memorandum of Understanding for collaboration was signed between the Pan-African Agency of the Great Green Wall (PAGGW) and the United Nations Development Programme, represented by its Sub-Regional Hub for West and Central Africa.
The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding took place between the Executive Secretary of the PAGGW, Dr. Brahim SAID, and the Deputy Resident Representative for Operations of UNDP’s Sub-Regional Hub for West and Central Africa, Mr. Luc GNONLONFOUN. This cooperation gives effect to both institutions’ wish to work towards greater collaboration, solidarity and synergy within their common area and for the benefit of local communities and populations. The Agreement broadly concerns the implementation of the PAGGW’s 2021-2030 Ten-Year Priority Investment Plan through the capacity-building of the regional institution and the national Great Green Wall structures, and, on the other hand, the implementation of solutions for the sustainable management of ecosystems and for the adaptation and resilience of local communities and populations through the establishment of Rural Hubs for Sustainable Production and Development. Specifically, it concerns the following areas: (i) the development of a Multi-State Integrating Programme for the Great Green Wall; (ii) further studies for the Great Green Wall Carbon Bank; (iii) the development of a PAGGW-UNDP project for the implementation of the Great Green Wall and the strengthening of the monitoring and evaluation system at regional and national level. This Memorandum of Understanding remains open to any other area deemed relevant by the two Parties.
